MasterChef Australia has joined forces with Australian Gas Networks (AGN), alongside Jemena, ATCO, and Solstice, to use biomethane and hydrogen gas in the kitchen, AGN announced on April 23.

Contestants on this season of MasterChef Australia will have the opportunity to cook with carbon-neutral biomethane, derived from gas captured from organic waste and processed for use in existing gas networks. The MasterChef Australia kitchen has undergone an upgrade to facilitate the delivery of biomethane to the set.

In addition to utilising biomethane, this season will introduce a BBQ challenge where contestants will cook with carbon-neutral hydrogen gas.

“This partnership aligns with Paramount's focus on sustainability by embedding carbon-neutral energy into the heart of our production, putting our commitment into action,” Rod Prosser, chief sales officer at Paramount Australia, said.

Biomethane and hydrogen gases are already being used in small-scale demonstration projects in Adelaide, Perth, and Sydney, showcasing their viability for both home cooks and professional chefs, AGN said.
