Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) on May 7 announced the conclusion of a general license agreement to grant a license for its carbon capture technology to engineering company Chiyoda Corporation.

The KM CDR process and Advanced KM CDR process, jointly developed by MHI and Kansai Electric Power, will now be made available to customers through Chiyoda Corporation, which will provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services for CO2 capture projects in Japan.

Through this collaboration, MHI aims to bolster its EPC capabilities and accelerate the development of CO2 capture projects across Japan, aligning with its commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.

As part of its commitment to carbon neutrality, MHI has delivered 16 plants adopting the KM CDR process, with two more currently under construction. The Advanced KM CDR process, featuring the KS-21 solvent, offers superior regeneration efficiency and lower deterioration compared to previous iterations, further enhancing its effectiveness in carbon capture applications, MHI said.
