Galveston LNG Bunker Port (GLBP) has signed a lease agreement with the City of Texas City, securing 140 acres of land on Shoal Point in Galveston County for its proposed LNG bunkering facility, it said on January 30. The location is situated adjacent to the Texas City Ship Channel, offering proximity to the maritime hubs of Texas City, Galveston, and Houston.

The GLBP project, announced in September 2023, is a joint venture between Seapath Group, a maritime subsidiary of Libra Group, and Pilot LNG, a Houston-based clean energy solutions company.

GLBP aims to announce the final investment decision (FID) details for the Shoal Point project by the second half of 2024, with operations expected to commence in late 2026. The project envisions a two-train and two-tank facility producing 600,000 gallons/day of LNG. In its initial phase, GLBP is anticipated to produce 300,000 gallons/day of LNG, addressing the growing demand for LNG as a marine fuel in the Galveston Bay and Western Gulf of Mexico region.

The project's progress includes estimates to file necessary applications with federal and state agencies for permitting, construction, and operation of the small-scale LNG terminal for marine fuel in early 2024.
